What is P21?
P21 peptide is a synthetic analog of ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), designed to mimic its neurotrophic effects. Engineered through epitope mapping, P21 is composed of specific amino acid sequences that enhance its stability and ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. Unlike CNTF, which directly binds to its receptor, P21 functions by inhibiting molecules that neutralize CNTF, thereby promoting neurogenesis and cognitive functions.
P21 and Neurogenesis
The P21 peptide has shown promise in research focused on neurogenesis and cognitive function. Studies indicate that P21 can promote the growth and maturation of new neurons in the hippocampus, a brain region critical for memory and learning.
